Rating: Pick-your-own apples in a scenic old orchard. roam through our 50 acres of apple trees and woodlands, enjoy the fall colors. Free haywagon rides on weekends. Cider. Judging from the homestead on the property, Riamede was probably one of the first farms in the Chester area. Lawry Mead and his wife Ria, bought the farm in the 1930s and transformed it into an apple orchard, planting new trees each year. In declining health, Mead sold the farm in 1968 to John and Jeanette Post, whose daughter, Deborah manages the pick-your-own operation today. The orchards are a mix of old and new apple trees. The orchards planted by Lawry are large, old fashioned apple trees, the kind we envision Johnny Appleseed having planted. The Post's have recently planted a new orchard of smaller "dwarf" apple trees, the type of tree that has become the modern standard.
